An other point to consider is how valuable space and load are.
And what is your limit... In Traveller, FTL is restricted by volume, real space by mass.
IRL rail systems need to budget for the total mass of a train with regard to being able to stop it, particularly on downhill grades. After some terrible wrecks were companies somehow misrepresented loads, certain rail systems budget for the maximum a container may carry.
With a starship, you can gauge your total weight if you know your thrust output reliably against local gravity and acceleration. Admittedly it's a little late to add anything more...
On a typical commercial ship they are not very valuable. Even of ferries used for short travel, space per passanger is something a plane passanger can only dream about, and the idea, that your luggage get checked for weight is absurd. So a vehicle that has space and load restrictions more like a plane, will be much more stingy, whith what usefull stuff they carry.
