Wooden-Hulled Cruiser v1.0 (TL5)

This fast steamer was built to hunt down commerce raiders and to raid
the enemy commerce in turn. She combines two compound steam engines for
high speed and auxiliary sails for endurance. Her armament consists of
eight-inch smoothbores with 68-lb. roundshot and explosive shells. The
hull consists of wooden planks over an iron frame -- cheaper than iron
plate, and more resistant to certain kinds of damage.
The steam engines burn 8 tons of coal per hour. The usual load of
coal, provisions, and ammunition is $264,000.
Subassemblies: Body +10, three Masts +4.
Powertrain: 36,000-sf gaff and jib rig with cloth sails; 8,000-kW rugged
screw propeller; two 4,000-kW rugged double expansion steam engines.
Fuel: 48,000-cf coal bunker.
Occ: 4 NCS, 200 RSR, 400 hammocks, 80 bunks, 18 cabins, 2 luxury cabins.
Cargo: 1,000 cf.

Design Notes
Body is 400,000 cf, with very fine lines. Masts are 583.2 cf each.
Structure is heavy, cheap. Armor is cheap wood. Waterproofed. Mechanical
controls. 600 rounds of 68-lb. solid shot and 600 rounds of LE are
stowed in the Body. 34,041.5 cf of empty space in the Body. Empty weight
is 6,400,000 lbs.

The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, July 2010 errata], VXi, and VXii (the armor volume rule) with
the text format from Vehicles Lite.
