This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Wooden-Hulled Destroyer v1.0 (TL5)
Copyright 2015 by Onno Meyer
If one steam engine is good, surely four of them are even better. This
sleek vessel can make 20 knots on a calm sea, at least until the engines
wear out and the hull gets warped. She is armed with five 4-inch rifled
muzzleloaders on pivot mounts and ten naval mines, called torpedoes.
Her inventor would probably sell the plans to a government, at home or
abroad -- if they are interested in a naval vessel without sails. Or she
gets built as a private venture, either to prove the concept or for more
sinister plans of world domination. A destroyer squadron would be hard
pressed to fight a sailing line of battle, but they should be suitable
for a guerre de course if there are enough coaling stations.
The steam engines burn 6 tons of coal per hour. A full load of coal,
ammunition, and provisions is $35,400.
