This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml Onno Meyer, 2015-09-14
GSbAG Regional-class Passenger Train v1.0 (GURPS Traveller TL6) Copyright 2015 by Onno Meyer GSbAG uses steam railways on some underdeveloped planets. They can be maintained using local ressources, a cost-saving measure which can make the business case for a new mine viable where imported grav technology would run at a loss. The Regional-class engine can pull five passenger cars, or four passenger cars and one mail car, at 50 mph. Passenger Engine The Regional is a 2-6-0T tank engine with an integral coal bunker. She has two small leading wheels and six driving wheels, powered by pairs of high, medium, and low pressure cylinders. The cab has room for the engineer and the stoker, and two extra seats for a conductor or supercargo. There is an intercom to communicate with the rest of the train, and a radio to talk to the dispatchers. The steam engine burns 0.625 tons of coal per hour at routine use. A full load is $450. Subassemblies: Body +5, eight Railway Wheels +3. Powertrain: 500-kW all-wheel drivetrain; 500-kW triple-expansion steam engine; 3,600-kWs lead-acid battery. Fuel: 450 cf coal bunker. Occ: 1 RCS, 2 NS, 1 RSR. Cargo: 85 cf. External: 333 sf top deck; two tow hitches. Statistics Size: 48'x11'x14' Payload: 25,000 lbs. Lwt.: 100,000 lbs. Volume: 3,000 cf Maint.: 70 hours Price: $80,805 HT: 12. HPs: 6,000 Body, 900 each Wheel. gSpeed: 50 gAccel: 1 gDecel: 10 gMR: 0.25 gSR: 5 Ground Pressure Very High. No Off-Road Speed. Design Notes Performance was calculated with 150 tons of towed weight, representing the rest of the typical Passenger Train configuration. Body is 2,000 cf. Wheels are 1,000 cf (increased volume). Structure is cheap, extra-heavy. Armor is cheap metal. Mechanical controls. 151.4 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 75,000 lbs. Passenger Car This little car has seats for 40 commuters. A few more could stand in the aisles or on the open balconies. There are electric lights, heaters, and fans. Battery power lasts for 18 minutes if the car is disconnected from the engine. Subassemblies: Body +5, four Railway Wheels +3. Powertrain: 10,800-kWs lead-acid battery. Occ: 40 NS with superior access. Cargo: 200 cf. Statistics Size: 40'x11'x11' Payload: 12,000 lbs. Lwt.: 60,000 lbs. Volume: 4,000 cf Maint.: 111 hours Price: $34,345 HT: 12. HPs: 4,500 Body, 900 each Wheel. gSpeed: * gAccel: * gDecel: * gMR: * gSR: * Ground Pressure High. No Off-Road Speed. * Use towing vehicle's statistics after adding towed weight. Design Notes Body is 3,000 cf. Wheels are 1,000 cf (increased volume). Structure is cheap, heavy. Armor is cheap metal. 337.525 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 48,000 lbs. Both vehicles uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third printing, July 2010 errata], VXi, and VXii (including the armor volume rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite. The Traveller rules affect the background and design choices, but not the technology of this vehicle. Next Week: An express train. _______________________________________________ GurpsNet-L mailing list <[email protected]> http://mail.sjgames.com/mailman/listinfo/gurpsnet-l
