Hi,
Perhaps the problem is with WMS 1.3.0 version you are requesting? Have you
tried with capabilities_1_1_1.xml capabilities_1_1_0.xml or
capabilities_1_1_1.xml capabilities_1_1_0.xml?
It is also possible that gvSIG does not read the GetCapabilities which tells to
use another URL for GetMaps

GetMaps does work with the URL above, but so does GetCapabilities as well so
you can try to give it for gvSIG Mobile.
This is another WMS service to try http://osm.omniscale.net/proxy/service?
Data are just coastlines outside Germany but the service is up and worked fine
a minute ago while I tried it.

I am trying to work with a different server to see if I can get this
figured this out.
When I enter:
http://imsref.cr.usgs.gov/WMS_Capabilities/USGS_EDC_LandCover_NLCD2001/capabilities_1_3_0.xml
I get a list of layers to add. Then I select a layer and select 'Add
selected layers.' I get the message 'The layer is not supported.'
Can someone possibly provide me with a URL that does work for them so
that I can make sure that I problem is not on my end?

The URL http://ipt-geo.gbif.org/wms does not load anything when
accessed from my browser or gvSIG mini. Can your phones browser access the
page? Logcat throws an IOException saying that their is no route to host when
