mine did this also. I had to remove and re-insert the battery several
times
before I got it to work. you do have to wait 30 seconds or more after
inserting the battery before it comes back.

I followed the instructions and the unit is not doing anything. It was
talking when I first inserted the battery but is no longer talking at all.
