Hi -- I have been using my booksense in the car through a stereo adaptor
plugged into the headphone jack. It works great, but this problem with nls
books being so low in volume is really annoying. I compensate by turning the
bs volume up to 21 and then turning the car stereo volume up, but then when the
tts voice comes on it blasts us out of our seats...*smile*
When the car is moving, it is really too noisy to hear the narration without
enough volume.
What is the problem blowing out the bs speakers? Just turning up the volume on
nls and rfbd books to be the same volume as the tts I would think wouldn't be a
problem.
Thanks.

I remember hearing that, but were the speakers blowing out because of the
overloud maximum volume of the TTS voice, or because of the volume of NLS and
RFB&D books? Since the max TTS voice has always been louder, it is unlikely
that any of the problems with blown speakers were because the audio was too
loud. If they increased the maximum volume of the audio, without increasing the
max volume of the TTS voice, there shouldn't be a problem because after they
reduced the maximum volume overall, I haven't heard anything more about blown
speakers; which means they've got some leeway to increase the max volume of the
audio without risking damage to the speakers.

I don't think it will be possible to increase the volume for nls and rfbd
books. It was stated any increase in volume will blow out the speakers in the
booksense.

The issue is not just independent volumes for the TTS and audio. The max
volume for the audio needs to be lifted. If you just get independent volumes
for the two without being able to increase the volume for the audio beyond what
the max is now, that won't solve the problem of NLS and RFB&D books not being
loud enough.
Also, I'd still like to see the equalizer in the music player, such as it
is, support all the other file types the BS will play, not just mp3 files.
While I'm wishing for things I have little hope of getting, I'd also like
to hear what the battery level is when the unit is charging, not just that it
is charging. My laptop tells me what the battery level is while it's charging,
so I don't see why the BS can't do it. But I've never seen anyone else ask for
this here, so I guess that won't be in an upgrade anytime soon.

Gary,
Thanks, I could not have said it better. The TTS volume issue is a
major annoyance for me and I also have been wanting to access the large volume
of material from the public library that uses DRM WMA.
Also, after a year the Bluetoot feature of the XT does not work
properly. I must atleast daily reset the Bookscence. Plus Bluetoot controls
from the Bluetoot headset should be enabled. I do wonder if GW Micro and HIMS
are listening. I will not recommend the Bookscence to anyone at this point.
If the fix these issues I might consider reavaluating that.
A additional volume issue which a posted here and heard nothing about
has to do with using the Booksscence to drive a car or home stereo. The max
output from the eqrfphone jack is insofficient to properly drive a line in on
devices without haveing to crank up the volue on the receiving device. This
causes a problem if you accidentlay switche the home or car stereo to another
source. Youe will get a blast of sound since you will have had the volue
cranked up to compensate for the Bookscence low output level.
Is GW Micro still monitoring this reflector/

Direct entry of radio frequencies is just one more feature that

release, the BookSense has none.
I wonder just how much programming time HIMS dedicates to the
BookSense compared to their far more expensive notetakers. Will we ever see
any of the features we've requested from the first, such as setting independent
volume levels for the menu voice and playback and the capability of listening
to Overdrive books and other DRM-protected files?

A period would not be necessary. It would be easy enough to ignore
the decimal similar to telephone banking or using an ABM.

I've given this a little more thought, which I should have done
before I sent the last message. Since there is no "period" or
"point" key, perhaps that could be omitted. In other words, if you
wanted 93.4, you could just put in 934. Alternatively, they could
use the "number" key for the "point" key in that particular operation.
