This is quite common to other lists to which I am subscribed. The intent
is to reduce those replies that do not benefit the majority of people
who are receiving the messages. Those would be messages such as "I
agree", "way to go", "you rock", etc.

The downside is that people get used to pressing control+shift+R for
everything so those types of messages that are meant for an individual
begin to sneak through any way.

Is there any reason not to have replies from the list default to the

I almost always prefer to send my replies to the list, and often forget

make the relevant keystrokes.
