Important Announcement Regarding GW Micro and HIMS PartnershipWe will just have
to wait and see what type of support HIMS provides for their products. I
haven't been overly impressed with their support behind the scenes for the
BookSense. Although it has come a long way from version 1.0, it had a long way
to come from that initial version that was full of bugs. Many of the features
we requested such as an efficient way to search text, were never implemented,
and we have no way of knowing if HIMS ever consulted with Neospeech about the
poor pronunciation issue. Bluetooth on the XT model still doesn't work right.
It disconnects when audio is paused. Recording with the internal microphone
also needs to be improved to prevent distortion.

I suspect that many people purchased the Sense products based on the reputation
of GW Micro. When GW Micro is no longer standing behind these products, HIMS
will need to gain the reputation of providing excellent direct support. If
they fail to do this, they won't succeed in the US market.

  Traci and others,

We don’t have specific information from HIMS as to how they will do what they
need to do. Whether their support will be the same as GW Micro is yet to be
seen. We pride ourselves at our support but I can’t comment on theirs since it
doesn’t yet exist. We aren’t ending things today, but it will happen soon.
Hopefully they will provide whatever they need to keep and maintain the users
of their products.

I’m not going to respond to every single email I’ve seen on this list, but
rest assured that I’ve read your kind words and appreciate everyone’s support
of GW Micro.

  Take Care,

  Dan

Wow, how do others on the booksense list feel about this?

My gut reaction is sadness and disappointment.

I liked the connection to gwMicro, a company I trust and have done business
with for 10-years.

It makes me glad I only own 1 sense product, the booksense.

  I wonder the following:

How will this effect our tech support?

How will we receive news and updates on our booksense?

I wonder if gwMicro will pass along the contact details of current sense
users, to hims.

Will it be up to us, to figure out how to contact Hims for future development
or support?

  Curious curious,

  Traci

PS. Thank you gw for the excellent support and development over the years.

Subject: [GW-Booksense] Important Announcement Regarding GW Micro and HIMS
Partnership

After nearly 6 years of working with GW Micro, HIMS Co, Ltd., the Korean
based manufacturer of the Braille Sense, Voice Sense, BookSense and SenseView
products made the decision to restructure their sales strategy and open their
own US office. As a result, GW Micro will no longer be national distributors
for these products and within a few weeks will end our nationwide technical
support, related email lists and repair service operations.

GW Micro worked very hard to improve these products during these past
several years and we greatly appreciate the support of our customers. Your
feedback helped make these products what they are today. In the same way we
continue to devote our time and efforts to the development and support of our
flagship product, Window-Eyes, with the primary goal of it being the most
powerful, secure, stable and affordable screen reader in the world!
