This sounds similar to but not exactly the same as a problem I've been having but which GW cannot replicate. Therefore, in the hope that the following provides some usable info, I've got a few more details and apologise for the length of the message.

I am running XP Home SP3 and using DECTalk Access 32 Window-Eyes along with a PowerBraille 80. If relevant, I can forward further system info along with a list of running processes or anything else that GW feel may be of use.

IE7 MAXIMISED

1. Go to www.google.co.uk

2. In the search box, enter the word temporal

3. With the touch cursor, route the cursor to the letter p

4. On the Braille display, everything disappears apart from the letter p

5. Use the cursor keys to arrow left and right and you'll just hear the Windows ding

6. Backspace and you will still just hear the Windows ding but the letters are actually deleted which you can see if you re-enable browse mode

7. Re-drawing the screen when not in browse mode doesn't rectify the problem

8. Reload the set file and you can see the word temporal when in browse mode but, when switching browse mode off, everything disappears - even the letter p which could previously be seen

9. When browse mode is off, cursor right and left still just elicits the Windows ding

10. When browse mode is off, press the end key to go to the end of the field and backspace; WE will say space but when you re-enable browse mode, the letter l has been deleted

11. I can get similar behaviour at www.audible.com so it's not a google page issue

FIREFOX 2.0.0.14 MAXIMISED

1. Go to www.google.co.uk

2. In the edit box, type in the word temporal

3. Using the touch cursor, route the cursor to the letter p - the cursor remains at the end of the word and nothing happens

4. Again, using the touch cursor, route the cursor to the letter o - the cursor moves to that position and the whole word remains visible

5. Cursoring left and right and backspacing behaves as they should do, ie speaking the letters

6. Again, this is behaving similarly on the www.audible.com site, too

In both the above scenarios, after pressing the touch cursor, the edit box is moved from the lefthand side of the display to three-quarters of the way across it.

Finally, the problem of disappearing letters is also happening within OE6 and the only way to get them back is to reload Window-Eyes.

I hope there may be something of use in the above!

Regards

Richard Bartholomew

Subject: window eyes 7 and not pronouncing letters when backspacing

Hi there window eyes users:
I'm having an issue with window eyes where when I try to backspace through a form it just microsoft ding sound when I try to erase a letter that I've miss typed. This is also happening in the address bar in ie 7.
Is there a fix to this problem? I'm using window eyes 7 beta1.
Thanks
Chris
