Technically, this is not a big deal. Blindows screen reader, has had
the ability to switch languages, along with the switching of voices,
for years (just a curiosity: It even switches the programs menus).
Of course, there could be many different ways of solving this problem,
technically. Just thought I would throw in one idea, as a starting point.
What we want to see - or should I say, hear - is that the different
characters and keystrokes (like 'end of line', in English, switch to
'Ende der Linie', when the german voice is selected). I get a feeling,
that we would need to load in all the dictionaries, including the
graphic labels ('button' in English, 'knap' in Danish),for each
language. The way I have seen this done, is that each language has its
own subdirectory - ie. gwmicro\English, gwmicro\German,
gwmicro\Sweedish.Could it be solved by having the voice routing script
have a box, where you defined, what language the actual voice is? I.e,
Eoquence Reed would be English, and load the dics from \English
directory; Eloquence Max would be set to German, loading its dics from
\German; ScanSoft Ingrid would get her dics from \Sweedish. If no
language is defined for a voice, it would use the dics in the language
of your WE release, which would be found in the %appdata%\gwmicro
folder - that is, in no further subdirectory. Each user, would have to
define the language setting for his own choices of voices, as there is
quite a few voices available, out there; and I don't expect GW staff,
or the scripter, to have the full overview of all of these, and their
corresponding language.
Yes, the user will have to edit the dics for each language. That is,
if not, GW would simply make them downloadable from a spot on their
webpage. There might even be languages, in which you will find (at
least) SAPI voices, buttwhich GW staff doesn't speak - i.e Corean.
That is why, I suggest, that users who do use these languages, and who
has the capability of editing the dic-tionaries, would be uploading
them, hence building a database for the different languages.
Well, just one idea, how this could have been solved quite easily.
Spin a little on it, and see, if not WE could be made quite easily
multi-lingual. As it is that internationally well-known a screen
reader, I am sure, this is something MANY a user hav been wanting, for
years. With the scripting capability, I think it is time, that WE
becomes quite much more multi-lingual.
Hope this gives a push in a direction, that will lead us somewhere.

Doug,
I only wish that characters like )(@!%$#@<>:}{¿³¼¾ and so on,
should be spoken in the language of the synthesizer you use at
that moment, and not in the way as written in the char.dic for
your own language. Perhaps therefor you need more than one char.dic.

Sjak,
The problem is the text you are referring to is not in a
dictionary but built into Window-Eyes itself. Window-Eyes has
been localized in many languages but it currently can not
switch languages on the fly. But then again, if you switch
synthesizer languages the application you are using and the
operating system you are using of course are still out of sync
as well.

Ralf,
No, you can not uninstall certain languages. But
remember, you can use the voice rotor script that Steve
Clower wrote. This allows you to setup a custom list of
synths (from what you have available) and then rotor
through that list. So you could or example list English
Eloquence and German Eloquence and rotor between them.
This gives you the ultimate flexibility. This does of
course require WE 7.0.
