it should also be a omni directional scanner because these scanners will
read a barcode even if it is upside down

Then, get most any Bar Code Scanner that works via a USB port. Metrologic

Another company that carries theirs and other scanners is Scan Technology.

You probably want one that is omni-directional so you don't have to have
it
right on the bar code exactly.
Or, if you want one that is portable and made for the Visually Impaired,
Envision America makes the ID Mate II for $1,300.00.
