I called tech support at Metrologic about the ms3780 bar code scanner. Some of us purchased these scanners with the wrong cable. We since have gotten the correct usb cable; however, in some cases this is not enough. Aparently the same unit is sold atleast two different ways with two different settings. If your unit came with the wrong cable with a locking clip at both ends, the unit was set up for high speed scanning. With the correct USB cable to attach the unit to the PC, the units need to be set at standard speed for USB connections. If your unit works as is, great. If not, you need to call Metrologic tech support: 800-436-3876 and press option 2. You need to be at your computer with the scanner and sighted assistance. The tablet looking book that came with the scanner is a book of bar codes which are used to change settings in the scanner. When I get some sighted help at the house, I am going to call back and see if we can get the correct settings into the unit. Jeff Weiss

Scan your item and when the scanner beeps which indicates that it has detected a bar code, the script should announce what the item is in about one second. You can up and down arrow if you want to hear the info again or just hit escape to close the edit box and go back to what you were doing.
