While not as small as the Small-Talk Ultra, the so-called netbooks are
worth a look.  Products such as the Asus EEE models, equivalent Acer and
HP.  Very low cost weighing under 1kg and usable keyboards.

I didn't read this entire thread, so someone may have already mentioned
this, but there is always the pda sized pc sold by GW called the
SmallTalk; it looks great to me!
