Mike, I appreciate the personal attention to my issues.
I have tried to submit working examples of things not working right.
Things just don't always fall in to those neat little step by step
always re-producable errors all the time.
I'm not always the best at explaining things i do great with my
students talking to them, but maybe musical and artist people speak a
little different language than programmers.
I fly around on this machine, it is a very high performance machine.
You get a feel for how something works and what to expect and when
something isn't quite right, you can't always put your finger on it,
or determine exactly what it is.
One thing I've noticed since I ghosted and installed we 7 ain is that
because i'm using the old sapi, I get faster response.
As a matter of fact, I can't even load the we sapi.
That's probably some kind of conflict between the two, but the old
sapi is definitely faster on my machine.
I would love to know the percentage of folks having trouble and not
having trouble and how it relates to the kind of hardware they have.
i get the impression that we has fewer problems with older hardware
and that just maybe these new geforce nvidia cards which have always
been the best choice for us, and picked by everyone from adaptive
vendors to studio folks are possibly causing issues.
And there's the issue of dual versus single monitor under xp you mentioned.
But jaws likes dual view.
Yikes, this is frustrating.
But I'll keep hammering away at it and as i get definitive
information, I'll pass it along.
Thanks a lot man.

Chris, we have updated autocomplete and progress indicator and are
not seeing the sluggishness that you report with those two scripts
and lvnav. Also for the record our tech support has been less with
this release than any other release. WE 7.0 was in development and
beta longer than any other release so I'm just not buying your
assertions. If you have something related to sluggishness that you
can duplicate then give us steps without rambling on and on and
we'll be glad to look at them. Furthermore you could also give us a
call and ask for me specifically to work on the sluggishness
issues. As we told you many times during the beta cycle we need
concise detailed steps to resolve issues and we just aren't getting
that from you.

We7 has the potential to become a good product, but now it is buggy
and somewhat un-reliable.
And the scripts that come with it need work too.
Nobody wants to hear this when they've worked hard to get something
out the door.
I use both jaws and window-eyes and have pushed the limits of both.
I have no love for the practices of fs, but I will say the things
jaws does well, it does very well.
Also I am using a stable older version of jaws, and so you can't
make a fair comparison between a mature product and one just being born.
And heads of companies are only human and sometimes make less than
prudent decissions.
The worst scripts to cause we sluggishness are probably progress
indicator and auto-complete and maybe lvnav.
I always get rid of those and that helps.
Until the first major bug squashing release of a service pack or
some such, these are things that most software buyers and users put
up with, we get to pay for beta software, testing for free while
the companies churn out bugworks versions after version.
We're just not used to this with gwmicro, but considering the
minimal resources they have compared to fs, it's amazing that we
got re-worked and out the door in the time it did.
Folks got to eat, and well, I guess someone thought it was worth the risk.
Considering the vast amount of resources fs has, shame on them for
not doing better.
But when your top dog you can be lazy.
But for all my oppinion was worth I did suggest that a bit more
time be taken to squash bugs.
But I don't have to live with the consequences, because I'm not the
one taking tech support calls from frustrated people who got a
product that didn't work as advertised.
Well, here's to we7.1 and getting back to the stable response we
with scripting working right.

Now that is funny, Afraid of installing WE 7 thinking that JAWS
would be better. Obviously you haven't seen the bad products and
bad service that FS puts out. WE 7 is a very good product.

Hi, I to am scared I haven't bought it yet. I just am waiting for
some good reports about it. turning scripting off makes it work
better, but it is just like running 6.1 with new eloquence. and
not worth the $175. This is the first time in 11 years, that I
am considering switching to jfw, or just staying back in 6.1 or
even going back to 5.5

Subject: I'm scared
I received a CD of 7.0 yesterday and I am scared to death! I don't know
whether or not I should install it because of all the posts about losing
speech and needing to reboot. I suppose I could try it in one of my PCs
and
see what it's like. Should I wait until the issue of speech loss is
resolved? I have a braille display so I would have braille if speech
failed, providing WE is still running. What are your comments?
