Yes, DeckTalk Access32 can cause a problem with Openbook, but I have used Openbook 8 since it came out with Window-Eyes without any problems. However, each system is different and I don't have DeckTalk Access32 as my default speech for Window-Eyes.
Try unloading Window-Eyes first and see if Openbook 8 will run. If not, then the install of the demo may be the problem. However, some systems have had trouble just having DeckTalk Access32 installed, but that is a Freedom Scientific issue. They haven't solved how to let Openbook and DeckTalk Access32 co-exist. So, Chad, if you cannot get Openbook 8 and Window-Eyes to co-exist, even with Window-Eyes not running, you should write Freedom Scientific with specifics about your system. I'd first try un-installing the demo of Openbook and then installing it again without Window-Eyes running and see how it behaves.
