THIS IS THE DEFAULT. YOU SHOULD get an option to save a file or open it. so I must conclude that you changed something along the way.

A dialog will come up asking you if you want to save the file or open it. select save tell it where you want it to go and press enter. Now it will be on your drive verses installing itself. The only package I think you really need to do this with is the install packages script but that is just me.
