Reading this give and take about removing the screen:

What happens when someone needs to read the screen for whatever reason.
I think removing the screen, though it might increase battery life, is 
very short-sighted and may cause more difficulties than first imagined.
There are times my sighted wife might use a machine, she has to locate 
something for me or perform an operation which will not speak (image 
restores is an example) so removing the screen would make this impossible 
from what I gather.
Correct me if I am in error or are not understanding, but I don't get it.
