Ok, I thought i had explained this but perhaps I hadn't, I really didn't
want to get bobbed down into a discussion which was off-topic for the
list <smile>
put simply, both offer superior defragmentation specifications and
performance than does the Disk Defragmentor which comes with Windows XP.
Diskeeper is fully automated so once you've installed it and run it
(unless you specifically change the settings) all you need do is leave
it to its own devices and the drive will always be defragmented and
optimised.
JKdefrag has the ability to be run from the command line thus you can
run it from various environments where the Windows defragmenter fails
terriby is that it doesn't offer "boot time" defragmentation therefore
when you run it, Windows may have a lot of files open at the time so
optimisation of the drive cannot be accurately achieved.
What does all this have to do with Window-Eyes? Well if your Windows
Swap and other Paging/MFT files are not optimised and everything is
defragmented then this slows the computer down this can make Window-eyes
(particularly when running with software speech) extremely sluggish and
can produce stuttering and static affects in speech.
If you want to find out more then visit the Diskeep web site at
http://www.diskeeper.com and read the FAQ'S and comparison charts up
there or read the documentation wich comes with JKdefrag, I posted a
link to it in a previous message.
If anyone else wishes to discuss this topic further or raise any
addition issues then can we take it off list please and by the way, both
applications are perfectly accessible with Window-Eyes.

Would you explain what these packages do that is superior to other disk
defrageers, or is it ease of use?

Hi everyone!
I've been working with some slower machines lately and I've found
something which grately improves the performance of Window-Eyes on
slower systems, systems with little memory and so forth, well 2 pieces
of software actually but both do the same job.
The first is that well known disk defragmentation software Diskeeper
which is available from http://www.diskeeper.com, the home edition will
do but you're better off purchasing the "Pramier Pro" version if you
can, does more.
If you want to avoid Diskeeper altogether then a free piece of software
called JKdefrag is around, I have it on "My Sendspace", go to
http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/3uqghp and download.
JKdefragment has 1 problem, you can use it or schedule it under Windows
as you would any other application but it works best at boot time udner
Safe Mode when the minimum of files are open and every system seems to
be different as to when the menu allowing you to boot into Safe Mode
pops up whilst booting so for that reason alone, I'd once again
recommend Diskeeper where operations are fully automated and you can set
boot time defragmentation if you need to.
