I've had my Acer Aspire one for about a week and love how this thing works. The keyboard, although small, is very usable. For me it took about a day or two to get used too but I can type on this thing very comfortably. One thing I wish the user could change is the ability to use a single key to access the home and end keys. To access these keys you have to use the FN key along with the page up and down keys, which are located on either side of the up arrow key, to gain access to home and end functions. I installed my applications by copying the contents of the CDs to a USB thumb drive and installing them from the thumb drive. This method worked for me like a charm. This machine certainly could be used as a primary system for the average user and I'm sure even for some power users.
Some applications I've installed thus far are:
Window Eyes version 6 <http://www.gwmicro.com/Window-Eyes/>
Eboostr version 3 beta http://www.eboostr.com/beta/>
AVG anti virus <http://free.grisoft.com>
Mozilla Firefox Version 3 <http://www.getfirefox.com>
Mozilla Thunderbird Version 2 <http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/>
Kurzweil 1000 version 9 <http://www.kurzweiledu.com/kurz1000.aspx>
I am going to install Office 2007 in January and am not anticipating any problems. One thing I did was download the eboostr program and installed it creating a cache on a four GB SD card. If you want to download the beta version 3 of this program you have the option of prioritizing applications so the applications you use most often load faster. This machine is certainly faster than my four year old Dell Inspiron 700M running a 1.8 GHZ processor and 512MB ram. This is a really nice little system for the price.
