The language in question is English, I presume you are familiar with it.

English isn't a Code Page; more than one Code Page contains most of the letters you'd need for English text. As I said, my understanding is that Windows 1252 seems to be the usual code page on American installations, but this list does have a global readership.

Moreover, as this is a window-eyes list Microsoft OS would be the
default platform under discussion.

Sadly, the relevant platform doesn't make the jargon less ambiguous and the application of platform-specific jargon to (potentially) cross-platform web browser add-ons that are likely designed to interact with (inherently cross-platform) web content is problematic.

The add-on in question was mentioned by a very helpful list member a
while ago.

Did they mention it on the list? If so, have you tried searching the GW-INFO archives?

I had a look but cannot find any Firefox-specific mentions of the phrase "icon text" or any mentions of the phrase "ANSI text" other than this thread. You might be able to come up with other relevant keywords.

I don't recall any Firefox add-ons being discussed on this list recently other than WebVisum and Popup ALT Attribute:

http://www.webvisum.com/

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1933

But I don't see how your description could match either of those.

There's also GW-Micro's own list of useful Firefox add-ons:

http://www.gwmicro.com/Support/Knowledge_Base/?kbnumber=GWKB1040

But again none of these seem particularly relevant.

I look forward to receiving some useful information.

Asking a more detailed question might be more likely to elicit it. :) I'm curious as to what this mysterious add-on is, so I too look forward to its identification.
