You're again employing an untruth to buttress your argument.
If I'm mistaken I apologise; but I'm not lying.
I never said that an entire encoding would necessarily be covered in one code
page.
I don't understand this sentence. Each code page is an entire different
encoding; the bytes represent different characters in different
encodings. That's why I actually tried to establish what code page you
were talking about; because if you're converting from one encoding to
another it's crucial to be clear about what the target is. It turned out
ultimately that conversion between encodings wasn't what the add-on was
for, so this line of inquiry was fruitless.
distorting the truth
I misunderstood what you said, of course, and I apologise for that. I
didn't set out to distort it, whatever you say.
arguing the toss over the use of a perfectly valid
technical term
I disagree that you were using the term correctly, but it doesn't matter
to the purpose of this thread.
Mind reading isn't one of my strengths.
Or mine, obviously. :)
Perhaps if you'd asked me to
describe the function of the add-on rather than splitting hairs over
ASCII AND ANSI we might have reached the end of the thread far more
swiftly.
You'd already described the function of the add-on in your original
question, but I didn't know what you meant by the words in your
description. So I asked.
If the function was indeed about encodings, as your inclusion of the
term "ANSI" suggested, then working out precisely what encodings were in
question is hardly "splitting hairs".
Happy new year
And the same to you and yours. :)
