Are you using reading layout? I don't know about word 2007, but in word 2003, if you hit the escape key on the document it will bring you to a more screen reading friendly environment.

When you get to the end of page 1, rather than pressing down arrow, press alt-period which is the next line hot key in Word for Window-Eyes. This will go to the next line whether it's to the right or not. This will take you to page 2 of the document. Also, not all documents are like this in Word, so it's a setting you are using.
