this is a windows feature. grin
open the computer or my computer icon..
go to the tools pull down then to folder options.
tab control view. then tab to the list of options and press h until you get to hiden files. and folders. turn off do not show hiden files and folders and hide file extentions. you press the space bar to turn most items on or off.
then click on ok.
now you will see the file extentions.
