Peggy,
It sounds like right now you have the default java installed but that is about it. When you installed WE4Java, it likely asked you if you wanted it to be installed in a default java location. If you only have the default, then, you are OK for now. The odd thing with java programs is that they don't always use the same installation of java to run. Therefore, you might have java installed in 2 or 3 different places on your computer. That is why you get the screen that lets you pick a directory.

Unless you have a program which is specifically written in java using it's native user interface, you won't get much out of WE4Java right now. One thing that will be an indication to you that an application is using java and may not be using the default installation is if you start the aplication and Window-Eyes will only read the title bar of the window. If this happens, leve the program running and then go to your start menu/all programs and look for the WE4Java group. Select the Install WE4Java to a Java Environment option and WE4Java will attempt to locate the java install for your running application. If it finds it, it will prompt you as to what to do.

As for the question from the other lister at the bottom of your note, WE4Java does not assist with JavaScript access on web pages. As unfortunate as it is that the names are so similar, java and JavaScript are 2 entirely diffferent things. WE4Java is designed to help with programs written in the Java programming language which is a different topic than JavaScript code within a web page.

I too want to learn more about it. I installed it, and I have Java on my computer, which I update whenever I'm told to do so. But I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with this, or if it does its thing automatically. I've got it installed, but I see the thing about installing it in various folders, and I'm not sure where I'd need to put it, if I'd need to put it anywhere. Won't it just automatically open when it's needed? If not, how do I know how to make it do so? <grin>

Subject: Question about WE 4 Java

Is this for java programs or does it work with java script on websites that use java script? I have it, but haven't used it, yet. I told my Mom about it because it intrigued me and she asked me this question to which I do not know the answer. It was the one I just presented to all of you. Thanks, Doreen
