If he did not understand the section posted then he could have asked a
question that pertained to it.  this would accomplish to things.  
1.  make him  aware of the documentation in case he was not already.  Two
provide us and gw micro an idea where the manual might fall short.  I mean
really I read I don't understand the manual all the time.  How-ever as my
teacher who taught elementary school said.  "it is not enough to tell me you
don't understand.  You must then tell me what you don't understand.  Only
then can I help you understand it." 
Also my reply was not the only one just the only one to provide the
documentation.  So he could have picked witch response helps him best.
