Ray, I think you're right in that I need to right click the file and change
association. My problem is that right clicking seems to work differently
somehow in Vista. When I right click ant try to choose another program, word
is all I see. When I right click and attempt to choose a new default program
from everything available on the machine, Window-Eyes sees that there are 18
items but I can't get it to read them. When i try the same exercise with the
same document on one of my XP machines, the right-click menu displays as it
always has. This leads me to believe that either Vista displays
right-clicked items differently or Window-eyes sees the menu differently on
a Vista machine. As I said, Vista and I are still learning to get along well
together.

Larry, the problem is the .doc file extention is associated with MS Office
and you have to unassociate it for this behaviour to stop.
I look forward to learning how one does this as I'm not up to speed on
exactly how you do this, but it isn't that hard. Think you right click on
a
.doc file and choose open with and you can unsellect Office as the Default
or something.
