Chip: Since I get messages in digest mode at the end of the day, my responses are usually delayed -- including this one. The Macro Recorder from GW Micro is, indeed, the script I use most often. Here's why and also, i'll include, the very reason why GW Micro scripts are so completely incomprehensible while JAWS scripts are a breeze. Don't get me wrong. I haven't used JAWS in nearly10 months, but I sure wish the Window-Eyes scripts could be used by someone who doesn't have the time, essentially, to learn a programming language. I have an application that is used at least 100 times a day. It is very badly designed. To look up a document, one needs to enter data into fields and search for them. Some of the fields include a crucial ones, namely, client and matter. The searching is done by number, but no attorney remembers client numbers for thousands of clients. So, one looks up the client number by name. To do this, one must hit F-2, hit tab, arrow down to the last field in the selection list, hit ENTER, and then hit tab. With Jaws, I would write a simple script by going int the script manager, go to a blank template, bring up the list of possible commands, scroll to them, verify that I'm using the correct one with the sentence or two of descriptions, and press enter to insert. In 10 minutes, I've created a script to do all the above steps. I wouldn't even have an idea as to how to write a GW Micro script to do this. I've never found a list ith available commands. If I had ust this, I could paste into one of the several text editors. I've never found that list anywhere, but I gave up looking several months ago. With the macro recorder macro, I can enter all the above commands and assign a macro key in less than 2 minutes. Now, when I want the client name prompt or, for that matter, the matter name prompt, I hit my hotkey, which is Alt-up arrow. This macro has saved countless hours -- as did the JAWS script before it.
