I have noticed something similar, which may be the cause of this, and it
too started a couple of weeks ago.  what I've noticed is that my active
window is often lost, and now I find myself with no active window as WE
says.  if this is happening to you two also, then no wonder it's not
reading anything.

are you having to press alt-tab to get back to the window you expected
to be active?
