I understand but, we have heard that an upgrade to browse mode is in the
works for how many versions now?
Will we ever get a firm commitment on this before it's available?

We've covered this over, and over. 7.1 will include a number of
enhancements, such as 64-bit support, Windows 7 support (both 32 and
64-bit), numerous Braille and Scripting enhancements, and more.
We've also stated, on more than one occasion, that our Browse Mode
re-write will happen post 7.1, so my indication that support for HTML5
elements would be post 7.1 is nothing new to what we've already indicated.
