As a programmer I have to add, that unless you're nearing the end of a project, and maybe not even then, how can you put a "firm", believable, date on any programming project? you simply cannot know how long it will take you, or what priorities will arise between now and then.
I don't like it any more than any one else, I just recognize that I can either pay for a screen reader that's ready when it's ready, or I can pay every year for an upgrade to a product that is what it is at that moment, and so it's delivered on time (and for a fee). I recently chose the window eyes way. someone else is paying my costs, but I'm pretty sure it's cheaper for one thing, because they're not buying me an upgrade every year.
