You need to install SP3 and all security updates. This will resolve the problem. Microsoft fixed memory leaks in Word which is what is causing the problem and having gobs of memory won't help the updates are required no how much memory you have. Your version of Word should be 11.8307.8221 sp3 to be current.

Dear List:
At work, I have Word 2003 on Windows 2000 and am using Window-Eyes 7.01. When I am in a Word document, as I move around or type in data, the response time for speech, entering data and arrowing around progressively gets slower and slower. The only way I know how to make it work faster is to do a save with control-S, close the document and then get back into it. Also, when I close it with the alt-F4, it may take five to ten minutes to close. The machine is completely locked up for that time. Is Word keeping track of everything that I have done and for that reason slows down to a crawl? If so, can I disable that function? Thanks. Regards: Ted Larson
