did you save the set file after you turned off descriptions in the general
menu?
you can turn off pop up descriptions in windows too.
open a windows explorer window like clicking on my computer. open the
tools\folder options pull down. then shift tab to the control tab and arrow
to view. then tab to advanced. go down the list untill you find show pop up
descriptions on the desktop and press the space bar to turn it off . w e
may not tell you the status of the option unless you save the changes and go
back to it to check the status of the option you changed.
tab to o k and click on it. now the descriptions will not pop up anymore.

It's Andre. I'm using WE 7.1 under Vista 32. Many times as I arrow through
the desktop, WE is quite delayed when reading the label. Actually, it
reads
something like: "Location r acro d32 c program files adobe reader 9.0"
every
time I up or down arrow. This is followed by the icon that I'm really on.
How do I resolve this? I tried turning off popup descriptions from the
control panel, but this didn't help. I've tried redrawing the screen
several
times. This also didn't help. The only thing that temporarily resolves
this
closing then relaunching WE.
