Hi, I suggest one of two approaches.

First, plug in a usb keybord. The number pad on the left now controls all the mouse functions, and you can start pushing buttons to find out what they do. Once you are comfortable using the mouse functions with the desktop keyboard, then unplug that keybord. On the left hand side of your laptop keybord at the bottom you have an fn key. It is usually on one side or the other of the left control key. Hold this down, and the right side of your keyboard becomes a standard number pad. Once you get used to the feel the mouse functions are right where you would expect them to be from your learning on the desktop keybord, more or less with the major difference being the placement of the left and right mouse click buttons.

The other approach you can take is to switch to laptop layout from the get go. Press insert 1 to turn on keybord help, and then use control plus shift plus the keys on the right hand side of the keybord to learn what they do.

I like the first approach personally. Unfortunately I am stuck with the second because apple took the number pad off of their laptop lines last year and effectively crippled window-eyes mouse functions not to mention numpad commander on the os 10 side.
