It might be that the contents are graphics. A sighted person would not see
the difference. All you can do is, try to run it with an OCR program like
Omnipage and convert it to text or winword files

Subject: reading pdf files chaos

To list,

I just bought three new programming books from O'Reilly's online with the
three various ways of viewing the books. There is pdf, mobi or online text
whichever you may prefer. I tried opening my files and it went to the usual
how would you like to read your document bit I naturally clicked left
aligned.
Well, it goes to this document is blank or empty. What am I doing wrong?
A sighted person just told me that it's all there as well.
Thanks for any useful information
