Hi:
Sometimes I am force to type in notepad and then copy and paste to the edit
box that I am trying to fill out, but generally WE handles the edit boxes
quit well. Another trick, if you run into trouble in a form is to turn
Browse Mode on and then off again. I find that this tactic will make
Window-eyes behave again.

what i do is open the windows\run dialog and run notepad.
fill in and edit what i want to say and then copy the text and
alt tab back to the form and paste the text into it. it is too hard to
edit those web edit boxes.

Subject: trying to use Window-Eyes again, perhaps ,i should re-install,
again
Well, grin, I'm once again trying to use Window-Eyes. I know I've tried
before, even earlier this year, but kind of got sidetracked when I once
again started to use JAWS when I thought I needed it to use TaxAct to do
my taxes.
I've now taken JAWS off my system; so, should I be tempted to put it on
again, and so far I haven't been, I would actually have to go to the FS
site and download the most current version again or locate my latest JAWS
c d. However, I did just purchase System Access awhile back, and I have
that on my system as well. So, I'm trying to learn to use both of these
at the same time, so to speak.
It's kind of strange, though, for, at least for some of what I'm trying
to do, I seem to be having a bit more luck with System Access. And,
grin, since several of their keystrokes are the same as those for JFW, I
can't help but wonder why FS chose the name instead of the similarity of
operation for that goofy lawsuit.
But, getting back to WE, and perhaps I've got something messed up and
need to re-install again, or perhaps I'm just not doing or understanding
things correctly. For, one of my problems when using WE, is that I can't
tell what I've written in a form while browse mode is off and I'm trying
to edit the form. Sure, I can turn browse mode back on and then arrow up
and down to read what I've filled in or just tab away from the form and
then tab back with browse mode off, but that doesn't help a lot when one
needs to edit a word in the middle of a paragraph in the form.
Now, as I said, I may have very well got my copy of WE, meaning the most
current one, goofed up and need to re-install; or, perhaps I am just not
doing things the correct way. But, for example, I was filling out a tech
support form on the En-Vision America site for sending back my id mate
OMNI to be updated, and I misspelled a word or two in what I was writing.
But, when backspacing to try and fix things, I only heard a ding from my
computer. Then, too, although I could turn browse mode back on and read
what I had written and stop at where I had made my error, turning browse
mode off again then always just put me at the end of the form. And,
although I could then use home and the control arrow keys to move within
the form, I still couldn't hear just what I was editing in the form until
I either tabbed away and back or turned browse mode back on and took a
look. So, I just gave up and used SA to correct my mistakes.
On another issue, and I think this has already been discussed regarding
the BookShare page, but WE didn't seem to find all the links there when
it came time to search for and download a book, thus I had to use System
Access again.
And, another link issue happened on some of the Schwan's pages when I was
trying to enter on the links for and read both the preparation
instructions and ingredients for some of the foods. For, WE would just
seem to stop at the page loading message, while exiting WE and turning on
SA while still leaving the page at that page loading prompt, SA would
then read me that preparation instructions or ingredients info, depending
on which I was trying to read at the time. Although, in checking those
sites further, WE would indeed read them if I either did an ALT tab away
and then came back, or if I unloaded SA and loaded WE with those Schwan's
pages still open.
Oops, in looking further, guess those preparation and ingredients links
are same page links. So, even though entering on them doesn't work well
with WE, guess a word search from the main product info page for the
appropriate words would get me to that part of the page, anyway.
And, oh yes, when it came to checking out on the Amazon site, the regular
one and not the accessible one, I had to use SA as well, as WE didn't
seem to read that part of the page, either, when it came to the place to
confirm my payment information. Now, WE did load that page on Amazon;
but, part of the info there just seemed to be missing. Also, from the
time I added a product to my shopping cart, I would get the message
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage on most every page through
the checkout process with WE, but then I couldn't enter my payment info
when it got to that screen, as that text just wasn't available, thus I
again had to use SA to get the job done.
Oh, as one can probably tell that I'm kind of trying more things as I
write this message, since the ALT tabbing away and then back worked on
the Schwan's site, I tried it with the Amazon site, too, but it didn't
work as I still couldn't find the payment info. However, when loading
that payment page with SA, and then keeping it there and then unloading
SA and loading WE, I could then read the payment options.
Oh, gee, whiz. For, still trying things here as I'm writing, I think I
finally got the Amazon site to read my payment info, and without having
to go to SA first. For, when I tried to pay my rent online tonight and
couldn't read the payment amount I had entered after turning browse mode
back on, I finally discovered that I could read the info I had put there
as long as I kept the browse mode off. So, after I finished paying the
rent, I went back to the Amazon page, put an item in my shopping cart,
got the Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage message, proceeded
to the sign in and check out process, and got to the billing page and
couldn't read the billing options once again--well, at least I couldn't
until I turned browse mode off, at which time the info did indeed
magically appear.
I'm certainly not trying to bash WE, and I've likely missed some of the
browser discussions because of not paying that much attention when I went
back to using JFW more, and of course you all know that I'm just not that
experienced with WE even though I've had it on my system for years. I
did try and use the help info and manual along the way, though. But,
still, I wanted to pass on some of my experiences with trying to use both
WE and SA and no JFW for the past couple of weeks, and see if folks might
have suggestions for me regarding using WE. I'm using Windows Vista Home
Premium and Internet Explorer 8 on a Toshiba laptop, and only have the
weather script installed, in addition to the default scripts that come
with WE, and I have already re-installed WE 7.0 and then 7.1 once in the
last week with the same results.
