Pam,
The first thing to try would be to turn off scripting on your machines
altogether. To do this:
1. Press Control-Backslash to open Window-Eyes.
2. Press Alt-F to open the File menu.
3. Press M to open the "Manage sets and scripts" menu.
4. Press Enter on the first item that opens, which should say something
like "Scripting status on."
5. You will now be placed in a listbox. Arrow up until you hear "Off."
6. Press Enter to close the dialog.
The stereo bing bong sound you heard, and the error windows you were
seeing, will no longer appear. If you are able to read the screen now,
then update your scripts to ensure they don't error out again. To do this:
1. Press Control-Backslash to open Window-Eyes.
2. Press Alt-F to open the File menu.
3. Press M to open the "Manage scripts and sets" menu.
4. Press A to open the "Add/remove packages dialog."
5. Shift-Tab until you hear "Check for Updates," and press Enter.
6. Once the list of available updates appears, Shift-Tab twice to the
"Update all" button. Press enter.
7. You may see one or more windows pop up with a license agreement. In
such cases, Tab until you reach the "continue" button, and press Enter.
8. Once you reach the list of updates again, all of your scripts have
been updated. Close this window as well as the "Add/remove packages" dialog.
Let me know if that helps.
Regards,
Steve

Hi! I don't know what happened; I guess I hit some kind of a key
combination that did this, but I don't know what it is, and how to
undo it. I have window eyes on my tower computer and on my laptop.
The problem started on my laptop. Sometimes, I couldn't get the
cursor to read stuff, then all of a sudden, it really screwed up in
that first of all, when I am on the desktop, it doesn't say the names
of the different things when I arrow to them, but it says the size of
the file or program, and what kind of file, program or utility it is.
If I try to get into something, it won't read much of anything
regularly with the arrows, and some of the other keys are stubborn
about working. I get a message that starts with some stereo windows
sounds that go back and forth from channel to channel, and then it
says there is some kind of a scripting error, and asks me do I want to
ignore it, edit it or close, I think. I called, and was told that I
turned off all kinds of things in the menus, which I didn't do. But I
hadn't heard that message about a scripting error, yet. I know
nothing about scripting or using scripts. The person told me to call
back with somebody sighted or do an emergency uninstall, and reinstall
the disk. I am at this part. I asked how to do an emergency
uninstall, and was told that when I put in the disk, it would tell
me. I can't get it that far, and I can't do a regular uninstall. I
tried installing it over top, like overwriting it, but it just dings
at me when I try to do any of those things, and won't do anything.
What can I do? Do I have to reformat this stupid computer? It's the
laptop with vista. Whatever this problem is, it started out in this
laptop, then it happened in the tower, also. All I did was shut down
in the propper way, when I was using the tower, which has XP, and
when I turned it on about three hours later, it was doing the same
thing. Now, the tower computer, suddenly righted itself, and a day or
so later, so did this laptop. But several days later, I was turning
it on, and it messed up again. I know I made a mistake when I was
bringing window eyes up or something, and I hit some keys by accident,
but I don't know what I did. I was afraid, when I had both computers
working, that it would happen again, since I don't know what I did to
make it happen in the first place. The only way I am using this is
with an old copy of jaws. I hope somebody can help me somehow! Pam.
