Actually Aero gets turned off automatically when a mirror driver
loads so when WE starts Aero is turned off and when it closes it is
restored so you don't need to mess with Aero settings.

Why not do a clean restore, ir re-install with a fresh system and

Anyway, turn off all the junk, you probably knew that anyway.
And of course check the obvious things, fragmentation, drive space,
programs loaded services running, etc.
