Have to say that I've used Dragon NS with WE, and without scripts with quite a lot of success in the past. As with all dragon users, the secret is in good training of the recognition tool, and frequent familiarisation with your own voice. To do this takes patience, and initially a lot of mousing using the num pad, and a heck of a lot of patience, but once its done then you only have to concentrate on training new word recognition frequently and going over old items of text every couple of weeks.
I've used MS documents such as Word, IE and Outlook with success, but I've never really spent that much time on these. Probably best to try it out and as I say, work on that training. -----Original Message----- From: Chip Orange [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 06 September 2009 02:18 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: dragon naturally speaking Hi Juan, I know someone who uses Dragon, and it is easily capable of doing all you mention. Unfortunately, I know for jaws users, they need a set of scripts to make it accessible, and so I'd guess the same would be true for window eyes. if you're using vista however, it has a built-in capability for speech recognition similar to Dragon in accuracy and capabilities; it too is not accessible, but I have started work on some scripts to make it accessible. I don't have the need myself (yet anyway), and I don't know anyone who did, and I work, so I haven't made these scripts as robust as they could be. however, if you are using vista and have the need, I'd put something together for you and put it up. the good news anyway is that this is free with vista, and you don't have to layout an additional $400 or $500 for the screen reader scripts. fyi, it's a natural question, so I'll answer it before it's asked: no, ordinary wireless mike's of any sort are not good enough for speech recognition. having said that, some companies have produced expensive wireless headset systems, with a base station which plugs into the pc, to give wireless speech quality which is good enough; I can refer you to a very helpful store called emicrophones.com (I think), which will help you find the few which are good enough to work with windows vista speech recognition. Unfortunately this is far too cumbersome for a laptop solution. hth, Chip Orange -----Original Message----- From: Juan Hernandez [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, September 05, 2009 7:34 PM To: 'GW Info' Subject: dragon naturally speaking hi, how accessible is dragon naturally speaking with wineyes? who on here uses it? I have MS, Multiple sclerosis , and there are times when I have flair ups, and I can't use a keyboard, I go fully paralyzed on the right side of my body for a week to two weeks a t a time, until the steroid infusions kick in and the right side starts to come back, so I'd like to know, can I do basic things like, check email, read/compose? browse the web? use WordPad or word? and other minor tasks? or is naturally speaking more advanced than that? I know years ago it wasn't that good, but I've not kept up with it. thanks for any guidance. Juan.
