I think the solution depends a lot on whether you can find a way to
determine, are you losing audio altogether, or just speech from windo eyes?

here's one way I determine this:  press window M when you've lost speech to
go to the desktop.  then, take a key that you think you've got no icons
which begin with that letter, use "x" for instance, and press "x".  you
should get a beep if you haven't lost your audio altogether.

Now, from time to time, even with 7.11 window eyes will still lose it's
speech on me, but I'll still have audio, and this isn't happening all that
often; not as often as yours seems to be.

it seems to me that your audio driver may be crapping out; if you can prove
this to yourself, you can work on getting an updated audio driver, or even a
new card.

hi everyone, i have a soundblaster soundcard xfi & a dell quad core
processor, desktop, with 7.11 installed, i keep loosing speech. i tried the
eliquence, then mike from gw. said to try dectalk one, i did and i'm getting
the same result, i tried microsoft mary and still the same. it happens alot
more in outlook express when i type a email. the speech gets garbled or
studders/ shakey then shuts off all together. does anyone have any
suggestions as for a work around? what i have to do is put the computer in
stand by mode then when i come out of stand by mode the soundcard is working
again and speech comes back. this does not effect other working programs.
