I think the solution depends a lot on whether you can find a way to determine, are you losing audio altogether, or just speech from windo eyes?
here's one way I determine this: press window M when you've lost speech to go to the desktop. then, take a key that you think you've got no icons which begin with that letter, use "x" for instance, and press "x". you should get a beep if you haven't lost your audio altogether.
