Chip is right. What the problem may be is in that options menu if the box
is checked to change the shape of the cursor whena new email comes in
uncheck that and you should be okay. Worked for me.

Try this:
in outlook, there are 4 options of things it can do when a new email
arrives, and 3 of them involve displaying something. go into it's
options,
and disable the 3 things involving changing the display.
in particular, press alt-t for the tools menu, and o for the options
choice,
and you'll be in a multi-tabbed dialog. find the "preferences" tab
(should
be the one you enter into first), find the "email options" button, and
press
it. find the "advanced email options" button, and press it. find the 4
checkboxes which cover what to do when a new email arrives, and make sure
only the one for "play a sound" is checked. then, "ok" your way out.
then, see if this fixes your problem. please let us all know.

I have a focus problem if I have outlook open and minimized to the task
