Hi, well your first problem I cannot confirm. I type something and window-eyes behaves as I would expect. Your second problem I can confirm in part that is window-eyes only says space when I hit the back space key. No system sound though here. Also on my system there is no prompt read unless I turn on speak all or read the line with the read current line cursor command.

The above solution does not solve the problem at least for me. Could others test this and report back what is found? (This would not generate an error report obviously, but still. It makes the command prompt rather unuseable, and I do often find myself running a lot of power commands from within there.
