Tracy,

I think GW is closed to working out all the 64 bit problems, and 64 bit
systems are so popular it may be hard to buy a 32 bit system.

the only problem I know of is that you could have some older hardware, with
an older 32 bit driver, that would not run on a 64 bit system. it's a lot
less likely if you're looking at a laptop I'd guess.

A few laptops have a full sized keyboard, and so would give you a numeric
keypad, and that may be of more importance to you than the 64 bit issue.
Or, you may adjust to a laptop keyboard, and so it won't make any difference
to you if you don't get a numeric keypad. I adjusted soon enough, once GW
told me that all laptops have a fn key, which when held down gives you a
numeric keypad made up from the alphabetic keys. This is a little tricky,
but you soon enough get on to it.

If you are going to be carrying the laptop a lot, you may want to
concentrate on weight. Some people aren't physically strong enough to carry
one of the larger 8 pound laptops all day without causing them a lot of pain
in the shoulder and back. If that's you, then concentrate on the 5 pound
laptops, which right now are usually the most common and the least
expensive.

Or, you can pay more and get a laptop under 3 pounds. Although there are
some who recommend a netbook, which would weigh around 2 pounds, I do not
recommend them, as their keyboards are slow to type on, and their processors
and memory yield a very slow experience when using some software. they're
not as expandible as a laptop, and they often come with a crippled version
of windows 7, called the started edition. And, many laptops barely cost
more than the high end netbooks, which are trying to be a laptop.

In any case, the 32 or 64 bit question really has nothing to do with a
laptop; a laptop is all about weight and which keyboard you'll get, and
whether you'll be ok with those.

I bought a laptop looking for as much memory and processor speed, and as
good a wifi card (that would be 802.11n) as I could get, and the smallest
screen I could get, because the screen size determines how much battery time
you'll get. I also bought an extended 9-cell battery pack (when the usual
is six).

These decisions gave me a laptop that's not too heavy, and which has been
satisfactory for many years, and is still able to run all the software I
want. if you buy the cheapest slowest processor, I've found that your pc
becomes unacceptibly too slow to you a lot sooner.

hth,

Chip

Subject: A question about laptops

Hello list.
Can anyone give me any good recommendations on what kind of laptop to buy
with Windows
7 32 or 64 bit that will not give Window-eyes any trouble when you install
it?
I have heard mentioned on the list different problems people are having with
laptops
and display drivers and window-eyes working with them.
I need to get some good Ideas so I can avoid these problems.
Thank you.
Tracy Son.
