Steve, Update checker does not check for drivers, but it does check for popular programs on the computer. Regarding the speed of your usb ports, you'll only get 2.0 speed if you plug in a 2.0 capable device. Most newer usb devices are 2.0, but my webcam printer and scanner are still 1.0.
