Hi Les,
Here's how you do it.
1. Go to start menu and press escape key.
2. Press shift-f10 and go to properties.
3. Shift tab until the start tab is focused.
4. Left arrow to get to the task bar tab.
5. Tab to the customize button and press it.
6. Tab to the show all icons on the task bar check box and check it.
7. 7. Shift tab to the okay button and press it.
8. Press apply and then okay buttons.
The safe to remove software will now be show up in your systray.
It's hidden by default when Windows 7 is installed.
Hope this helps.
Pastor Gil

Using Windows7, I'm not seeing the ability to safely remove my thumb drive
as I did with XP. Is there something I can modify in Windows7 for
Window-Eyes to recognize the app which I'm assuming is in the tray? Thanks.

Les

I'm not seeing this behavior.

I can but second these points. Another drawback, at least on my
system, of using the WIN-B is that for every press on the arrow-keys,
I hear the word 'SysTray' spoken. It goes on saying things like:
SysTray, Avast!
SysTray, Windows Live Messenger.
SysTray, Notepad.
and so forth. This introductory 'SysTray' phrase does not speak when
using the arrow-keys in the INS-S menu. Don't know, if there is a
setting to avoid that one in the WIN-B.

Guess there is a reason, why GW leaves both ways of accessing the
taskbar open. Otherwise, go ahead and remove the one of them, but I
really think it should have worked here. Kind of puzzled, that it
doesn't work properly, specially so, since I recently did a fresh
install of WE 7.02, and ran the full range of updates. At the moment,
I am running the 7.2B1, and the problem with INS-S has been persistent
all the way through the installation/update process.

well I will shed a lot of them.
advantages to the window-eyes system tray. it desplays in a list that
always works. the windows+b command some times gets you stuck in a
loop. for example run utorrent and at times you will think your on
that button but it then updates and moves and your bam right back at
the start of the tool bar.
advantage to the window-eyes system tray. when just wanting to right
click to turn something off you get placed back in the program where
you issued the system tray command when done. with windows+b you get
put back on the tool bar and you then have to alt+tab back to the
running program you wanted to work with in the first place. can be a
job if you lets say have 8 or more programs running as I do at times.
so please I beg of you don't remove this feature.

If the insert-s system tray hot key capability went away, I would
shed 0 tears. That being said, have you tried the real way of
reaching the system tray? Windows-B is the hot key and it works no
matter which window you are in. When you get there, arrow to your
desired icon and press space or applications key, depending on the
properties of the icon and you will have access to the menus.

Many thanks.

This situation, has been the case for all the time I can remember,
in WE. I will here but give one example, but it happens in a long
range of cases. Wonder why, and if there is - or can be - a fix for it.

Many a software place themselve in the SysTray. Sometimes, the
entry is but a notification, but in many cases, it is more of a
menu bar. Like with your AntiVirus. Scrolling down the list, and
pressing ENTER on the AntiVirus, you will have a menu of choices
opening, specifically for the AntiVirus software. Well, that is
what it is supposed to do, and does in certain cases. But this is
exactly where my challenge sits.

If, for instance, you are in Windows Explorer, then press INS-S,
and scroll down to your AntiVirus and hit ENTER; everything work just
fine.
On the other hand, try go to WE controlPanel, by CTRL-\. Then press
INS-S, and repeat the steps. When pressing ENTER on your AntiVirus
this time, you are thrown back to WE ControlPanel, and nothing more
happens - no menu opened this time. I do see the same behavior, if
I am in one of my firewall's windows, and try to access any stuff
in the SysTray. You can scroll the list, but soon as you hit ENTER,
expecting the submenu to open, you are simply thrown back to your
original window. If you are in other windows - i.e Notepad, Outlook
Express, Windows Explorer, your net browser etc - and try to access
any stuff in the SysTray, everything work perfectly well, and you
will be given the submenus.

Why is this happening. It simply doesn't make sense, that your
access to the submenus of the stuff in the SysTray, will be
depending on which window you are in, when opening the SysTray.
Really hope that GW can have a fix for this, before the 7.2 will be
released. At least, I find it rather bothersome, not to be able to
have the full access in SysTray, no matter what project I am
currently working on.
