Launch Adobe Reader and under Edit go to preferences. Under the Internet options make sure that the open PDF in browser is not checked.
Also I find it works best to load entire document. Even for larger ones over 50 pages, I prefer to load the entire thing. Of course this takes longer. You can find the option to read entire document under the reading category. It is one of the radio buttons there.
