It'd really help if you knew what was in your machine, there are programs like driver genius and driver detective which can make a good guess at what you got, but with so many different hardware configs out there, it's really hard to do that.

To get best results, you need to go to your motherboard manufacturers site, your video card's site, your what ever else you have site, etc.

But if everythings' working well, don't worry about it unless you just like to tinker.

Window's update might give you some better generic drivers for some devices, and often, the latest driver, depending on what your running isn't always the best one to have.

There are a lot of ifs when it comes to drivers.

The stock answer all the tech support always gives you is run the latest stuff.

But the latest isn't always the most stable, or what works best with your hardware, this is especially true in my line of work, namely a studio recording kind of guy.

For example the latest driver on some of these nvidia display cards is known to have trouble with screen-readers, seems to be more a jaws thing than a we thing, but one of my friends who's in to this stuff too had to roll back to an earlier driver to make we and jaws play nice together.

So beware, if things are working fine, you might be well enough to leave it alone unless your comfortable with technical stuff.

My desktop computer is a non-branded 'build it yourself' product. It's now a year old, and I want to check if there is any updates for my hardware drivers. Does anyone in here, have a suggestion as to a good, reliable, webpage - or software - that will scan my computer, and then lead me directly to the correct downloadable for new driver updates for my hardware? I am running WE7.2, under WinXP Pro; and I need the software/webpage be as accessible as possible. Please let me know, if you have any favorite solution to the challenge. Thanks for all feedback!
