Vaughan,

I think you're pretty confused about how Word "headers" work, or worked in
previous versions, and the terminology which applies.

I think the things you are calling "running headers" are page headers; which
you can edit in older version by going through the view menu to view the
page header.

The other things, I think you were calling "sub headers", have nothing to do
with page headers, but are a style which can be applied to a paragraph; this
style changes the appearance of the text (usually bolding it and making it
larger, and sometimes centering it); however, it's position on the page is
not changed, while a page header when entered, always appears at the top of
the page.

None of this basic info has changed in Word 2010, only how you achieve it
has changed.

I think what you may need, is a course on use of office 2010 for screen
reader users; sources such as access technology institute or american
printing house or national braille press would be good places to look.

hth,

Chip

Subject: Styles and Headers in Word 2010

Greetings everyone.

I am coming to grips with Office 2010, and one of my difficulties is
understanding the new ways in which headers are listed in the ribbon under
the insert tab. I am used to the old Word aproach which was to have running
headers and running footers available for editing udner the view menu, (I
think) and then being able to insert additional sub-headers udner the old
format/styles menues.

I am hoping that someone can explain to me how headers are now constructed
and the steps I have to take to get a running header and then to be able to
insert subheadings as required.

The Ofice 2010 sets are loaded into Window-Eyes v7.2.

Many thanks.

Vaughan.
