YOu know, I don't like to see the rug yanked out from anyone,
but the screen-readers have enjoyed a nice ride for years, filling a niche market alredy custom made for them and government subsidized to a huge extent.

They yelled holy hell when ms was going to put a screen-reader in the first time around, and got a leash put on it, but now ms has to contend with the mac, so uncle bill I'm sure is going
to tell any two bit screen-reader company to just deal with it,
and suck it up.

so I don' think screen-reader companies will die, but they might have to get along with a little less, and do a little more, if they want to compete if w8 has the same level of reader in it that voiceover is to the mac.

Which is all good for us, because competition keeps people from being lazy and resting on their laurels and so we just might get a lot more choices.

Little companies tend to be a little closer to the bone, and a bit more flexible even if they don't always have the most leading technology,
and gqwmicro certainly enjoys a better public image,
so I bet jaws goes away first since they're so tied up with copy protection,
if our reader companies go away, also I suspect this is why we're seeing hardware pushed so much by gwmicro and everyone else in the biz,
because that's where the money is.

But if the software devisions survive, then we may see more specialization, with more work being done on aspects of windows and programs that the built in reader doesn't support,
of course this depends on demand,
but even now, we're seeing attrition to programs llike system access, and nvda for many folks who have modest needs.

So let the games begin, and let the dog that bites the hardest and bark the loudest get the biggest bone 'grin'.
I hope our little company makes it on top of the pile.

Personally, if that was the case, I wouldn't pay GW Micro the money
needed to be a customer of there mailing program. I don't believe that
GW Micro should have to design a "Mailing" program, just because the
"Users" demand it of them.
As a previous posting stated, don't go after GW Micro for the
incompitance of Microsoft.
I would believe that throwing in a mailing program is pointless.
What I suggest is that you use something that you can use like
Thunderbird or something.
Raul did a nice tutorial with Thunderbird and Window-Eyes recently.
There is also Microsoft Outlook, wich Window-Eyes works with, if you
have the Office suite of products.
If you don't, I'm sorry.
But why should a screen reading program put a mailing program in it?
I do not think that is a major feature.
Rewriting of browse mode is far more chritical than your tiney mailing program.
Also, I am hearing rumers that Microsoft intends to put an intagrated
solution onto Windows Eight.
This will mean that GW Micro.com will die, along with every other
screen-reader in existance.
What do you users think about this possibility?
This is not a confirmed thing, but you surely do realize that this
would mean the death of Window-Eyes.
