I don't have my laptop here, right at the moment; so have to go by memory.

Just like the FN-key along with the J K L and so forth, makes out the numeric
keypad; in a similar way, the FN-key, along with the topmost row of yor
keyboard, makes out special keys. That is, FN along with the Function keys,
might perform special tasks, and features. Be a bit careful, as some models
tends to have certain features there, which might affect your system. I do
believe, on my laptop, which is an HP, the FN along with the Insert, is the
combination that makes NumLock. It might say so, on your keyboard. I.e, the
Insert key, might have both the labels printed on it: INSERT, NumLock. But,
basically, you will have to play a bit around.

Have you tried, open the 'learning mode' by Insert-1, and then play around
there? Hold down your FN-key, and press one by one of the keys on your keyoard,
and see what WE tells you. Just remember, to have some kind of notetaker handy,
that you might write down, for later reference, what the different combinations
mean.

Hope this helps you, and any other user with a laptop.

  Subject: laptop lay out

  Hello all

Just got a new lap top for work which is pretty light and smaller than the
last one I had.

I am having one problem. IT doesn't have a number pad, which is fine because
I know where the function key is and how to use the letters in conjunction with
the function key to act as the mouse. It appears that the numb lock is on
though. When I use the function keys with the letters, it says the number and
does not read the screen. I asked my husband to find the numb lock key and he
is saying it is not there. Please help.

I changed the keyboard from r default to laptop and it has not made a
difference. Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.
